we can find some variations on the old Lamy 2000,
here are three examples, the font types are different on the cap engraving,

Vintage "New" Lamy 2000

Lamy 2000 was introduced in 1966, and has retained as its Bauhaus style since that.

here is a vintage package roughly around the 1970-80's,
the plastic box,

the other side of the foam can hold the fountain pen and ballpoint pen

the description of the "New" Lamy 2000 fountain pen,

the other side is the ballpoint pen description and instruction, using the "exact" refill,

while the outlook of pen remains roughly the same throughout 45 years, there are some visible minor cosmetic changes,

the vintage Lamy 2000 is 1.30mm shorter than the modern ones, only 137.12mm capped.

The current Lamy 2000 would have "GERMANY 1" or "GERMANY 2" stamped under the clip,
and earlier version may have "W. GERMANY" or "GERMANY" imprinted under the clip.
the vintage (earliest) Lamy 2000 stainless steel clip (left) does not have "LAMY" imprint on the side, and the tipping is a semi-sphere, and no engraving under the clip.
although both style clips are spring loaded made of solid stainless steel, the modern ones open when the pressure applied on the top.

the cap is stamped with "LAMY 2000 W.-Germany" near the opening,

the blind cap has a "L" disc at the end,

the nib size is stamped on the section,

also, there are some other changes inside...

Pilot Kawarinuri Ishime 石目

Kawarinuri is a new crafting technique for Pilot, 変わり塗り「石目」. stone wall textured urushi are coated on the brass flat-top barrel, which gives a rough feeling on hands. the word "urushi" and "japan" are painted in golden powder on black urushi end. the 18k single tone #10 nib on the plastic section matches the golden clip. it can use the CON-70 converter. the size, style and clip is roughly follows the 90th Anniversary Raden pen.

Pilot Elabo 2011

Pilot releases a resin version of the Elabo II, it is in black or red resin and chrome-plated trims. the size is almost the same as the Namiki Falcon for oversea market. it can only use CON-20 and CON-50 converter.

the cap of the resin Elabo 2011 has a metal disk on the top,

the cap ring pattern is similar to the Namiki Falcon,

here they are,

some of the regular production versions,
vista (transparent), hot (red), sky (blue), safari (yellow), s2 (charcoal), griso (grey), alpin (white).
The alpin and griso were discontinued. Lamy stopped using the term hot, sky and s2 in 2008, and replaced them with shiny red, shiny blue and matt charcol.

In 2010, the yellow, red and blue safari are replaced with the chrome clips and chrome nibs. and the yellow safari is "fresher" in color.

In 2011, the pink safari appears with a pink cross pen cap top. the lime also has a green cross.

the Savanna Green and Terracotta Orange are missing.

Sailor Chinkin Hidamari (沈金日溜り) is a masterpiece by lacquer artist Kiyoshi Torige 鳥毛清. Two lovely cats are craved out from dots and lines on the Sailor King of Pen. Gold, silver and platinum powder are applied on the pattern and then covered with lacquer. Like the other King of Pen, it has an extra large 21k two tone gold nib, cartridge or converter filled, The section is covered with lacquer.

this Pelikan M900, same size as M800, is probably an early version...

the nib is two-tone "20C-833" gold;
cap ring is imprinted with "PELIKAN" and "W.-GERMANY", no "TOLEDO" nor "Ag 925" imprint as today's;
the vermeil sleeve has the "925" sterling silver and the craftsman mark engraved, some of the first M900 version would not have the 925 marking.
pen ends are attached with golden metal plates.

Pelikan M101N Special Edition 2011

More than 70 years after the launch of 101N in 1937, Pelikan introduces the tortoiseshell brown M101N Special Edition in April 2011.

the pen is very light with weigh of only 9.00 gram and the cap is 5.79 gram, the whole pen totally is 14.79 gram. it is small about 123mm long with the cap, and 117mm for the pen only.

The tortoiseshell barrel and cap are now made of cellulose acetate instead of the celluloid.

the dark brown section and end pieces are made of resin. the cap top has the Pelikan logo, the wording "Pelikan" and "GERMANY".

the clip and two rings are 24k gold plated, and "GERMANY" is also imprinted under the clip.

the nib is 14k gold with the same style of traditional marking "Pelikan 585 14 KARAT".

there is no special box, no paper about such special editon, just a tag and a generic Pelikan box. environmentally friendly, period.

Lamy white safari with red clip are special models for Japanese market in 2010 to mark the 30th anniversary of safari. Two versions are available, a premium edition with a pen case and numbered (1000 pieces) with "30 Year LAMY safari xxxx/1000", the other one is an ordinary version with a plain white shiny barrel.

In coincidence, Taiwan also introduced similar safari for their "100th Anniversary", with printings on the cap.

Faber-Castell celebrated its 240th anniversary with two perfect pencils and a fountain pen in 2001. The company has started production of wooden pencil since 1761 in Germany. The "Limited Edition 1761-2001" included 99 pieces of perfect pencils in 18k white gold, 240 pieces of perfect pencils in stainless steel, and 1761 pieces of fountain pens in stainless steel. the fountain pen here is in magnum size, which is basically the size of the Pen of the Year model. The barrel is made of olive wood aged around 240 years old. pen cap top and pen end are engraved with "Graf von Faber-Castell". The company logo and three very little stones are also embedded on the pen top. The pen is filled with cartridge or converter.

Yet another new color for the Lamy Al-star, it's brown, namely "coffee".
it's almost the same color as the previous year's "rubin black" Studio and "rubin black" Swift. the product code is "22", which was the code for discontinued Persona.

the original Lamy safari yellow has black clip and nib. the company has changed the yellow, blue and red safari to chrome clip and nib in 2010. the yellow one's color is fresher now.

the fresh yellow (the middle one in the photos) with black clip/nib should be an immediate product.

White is the new color of Lamy pico, a very small pocket ballpoint pen,
the light grey plastic trims fits the white tone of the pen. the simple operating instruction is written on the back of the plastic package.

Graf von Faber-Castell Classic Sterling Silver

Faber-Castell Classic Sterling Silver has a double-milled cap edge to distinguish it from the other finishes in the series. The whole pen is made of sterling silver, including the section, barrel and cap. Hallmarks can be found on the pen cap, and section. The barrel has engraved with straight lines and has a field for individual engraving. The spring-load clip does not have any marking, it was said that it's sterling silver, however, it looks there is a layer of plating on it.

this series have rollerball, ballpoint, 0.7mm mechanical pencil. Actually, the fountain pen shares the same cap and barrel with the rollerball pen.

Other finishes include natural wood such as pernambuco, ebony, and grenadilla.
there is a platinum-plated version.

Namiki #20 nib is the same size as Pilot #15, but with different shape and
feed. Namiki nibs usually carry the PP-F hallmark as follows,

Most Pilot/Namiki nibs have date code stamped in the format of "XMMYY" or "XMYY",

X is a alphabet, e.g. "A", "B", "a", "b", "H", "T" ...
"H" was the Hiratsuka factory 平塚工場, and "T", Tokyo factory 志村工場, was closed for some time. these two alphabets are no longer use today. "A" and "B" mark the different welding machines in the Hiratsuka factory.

MM or M is single or double digit denotes the month.

YY is the year, e.g. 09 is 2009.

some older nibs would also has the old JIS mark.

Intuition was introduced 2009, with the new logo from Graf von Faber-Castell. Made of black resin and platinum plated trims, two logos can be found at the top and bottom of the pen. The pen cap has a platinum plated ring engraved with the company name and "HANDMADE IN GERMANY", and a strong spring-loaded clip. The pen does not have distinguish section, only a single piece of barrel with gently concave grip. As usual, it has a 18k two-tone gold nib, and filled with converter or cartridge. The front section with the nib and converter can be removed by turning the knob at the pen end.

Lamy Dialog 3

after waiting for several months... it arrives.

it has a wooden case as the previous Dialog series. the stainless steel pen is palladium finished with the normal 14k nib as the high end Studio and Accent.

the retracting mechanism is solid, precise and smooth. the section is thick (13.5mm), as compared to other Lamy pens. the nib extends completely with about half turn of the barrel, and the clip would retract.

as it does not have ink window, it's quite difficult to check the remaining ink volume or when filling with the Z26 converter.

Pelikan Majesty M7000

Pelian Majesty was introduced 2007. A platinum plated sterling silver barrel is hefty, over 63g with the cap.

One of the most attractive point is the 24k (5µ) gold frieze on the cap. it is a reproduction of the stone wall at Pelikan’s headquarters factory in Hanover.
The springy clip is gold-plated with the "metal" wording clearly stamped underside. The cap is platinum-plated sterling silver, mirror polished, with a golden trim near the end, engraved with "PELIKAN GERMANY Ag 925".

Although it has the piston filler, the design of the Majesty is quite different from the Souverän series. The outer barrel with special locking mechanism covers the filler knob and ink reservoir, and there is no external ink window. The barrel locks into its place with a click for the final turn; however, this mechanism may wear off easily for prolonged usage. The barrel can only be totally screw in when the piston is in the fully filled position. if there is resistance when you screw in the barrel, stop and examine the filler knob.

The inner ink reservoir is in smoke grey color. It's still a question for not using a transparent ink window for an internal piston. The turning knob is also plated and fluted for smooth operation.

The section is plated metal and has a gold plated trim near the nib. the golden trim matches the two-tone 18k gold nib.

it takes the M600 nib, and the M200 nibs should work as well.

Mr Andreas Lambrou mentioned the following in "Fountain Pens: US and UK" Page 245,

The success of CP1 and CP2, especially in the Far East and Europe spurred Aurora, in 1994, to invite Classic Pens for a CP3 co-operation between the two companies. Aurora was then strong in the home market, Italy, and was seeking to strengthen its position in the export markets.

Aurora Hastil and Thesi

2525 sets of Aurora Hastil and Thesi "Silver Jubilee" were released in 1999 for the 25th anniversary of the successful models. The body of the Hastil fountain pen and Thesi ballpoint pen are made of 925 sterling silver. Hastil in 14k gold nib was designed by Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) in 1970. It accepts Parker cartridge or converter. It is now an exhibit in the MoMA.

Thesi ballpoint pen was first introduced in 1974.

Both the pen and ballpoint pen are still in production, with stainless steel body.
